Timber gable vents / Circular
Circular timber gable vents.
Round timber vents, sized for your gable.

A circular timber gable vent creates a round opening with horizontal fixed blades inside a surrounding frame. Start with the diameter and mounting arrangement, then confirm the timber, finish and blade layout for the actual opening.
Part of Karem Woodcraft, our main workshop brand. Workshop: 852 Mountain Highway, Bayswater VIC 3153.
70 mm frame. Confirm the frame profile, mounting depth and final overall diameter with the workshop.
Timber preferences: Treated Pine, Western Red Cedar, Tasmanian Oak and Blackbutt, subject to availability and suitability confirmation. Gable vents are quoted individually.
How to measure a circular gable vent.
Measure the opening across the horizontal and vertical centres, then take additional diameter measurements to check whether it is round. Record the smallest and largest readings rather than averaging them. Show the opening depth and any existing rebate or trim on a sketch.
Label the opening diameter separately from the required finished outside diameter. A surrounding frame or face overlap changes the relationship between the two. The 70 mm frame dimension is a construction detail, not an instruction to subtract 140 mm from your opening.
Plan the surrounding frame.
A circular surround may need to match other roofline details. A plain 70 mm frame and the moulded profile in the product photograph are different descriptions; identify which appearance you need. Confirm the visible frame, fixing surface and available depth before fabrication.
Replacing an existing circular vent.
For a replacement, photograph the complete circular face, a close-up of the surrounding profile, the blades and the back if it is safely accessible. Include a ruler in a close-up for context, but provide measured dimensions separately. Tell the workshop whether the old vent sits inside the opening or overlaps it.
Blades, finish and ventilation requirements.
For the specified fixed-blade design, the slats are 32 × 9 mm and fixed at 45°. Catalogue and matching products can use different profiles. Confirm the blade section, spacing, count and any bearer with the quote; photographs and illustrations are not fabrication specifications.
Tell the workshop about exposure, a painted or visible-timber finish, any mesh requirement and the intended fixing method. If the project requires a particular net free ventilation area, rain exclusion, insect or ember protection, provide the requirement for separate review. A louvred appearance alone does not establish ventilation performance or compliance.
Your circular vent quote checklist.
- Shape, orientation and quantity, labelled for each opening.
- Opening dimensions, required finished dimensions and available depth.
- Diameter readings and details of any rebate or face overlap.
- Photographs, timber and finish preferences, and any mesh or airflow requirements.
- Delivery suburb, postcode and intended installation timing.
Ask the workshop to confirm final construction, current lead time, collection or freight arrangements and all inclusions before manufacture. Circular vents do not use the window shutter price bands.
Circular gable vent questions.
Does a round vent need only one measurement?
The diameter describes the basic shape, but it is not the complete order specification. Include opening depth, finished outside diameter, mounting arrangement, frame profile and any ventilation or mesh requirements.
Can I request a vent outside the calculator’s size range?
Yes—send its dimensions, shape and supporting drawing by email for individual review. The shared enquiry form uses window-panel inputs from 900–2400 mm high and 300–1500 mm wide. That input range is not a limit on custom vent enquiries, and its rectangular preview does not calculate a circular vent.
